This innovative programme enables you to develop your own creative writing, teach writing or go on to further study of creative writing or literature.
The MA draws on its strong links with the vibrant literary culture of the North East, and to organisations such as Northern Stage, Seven Stories – The Centre for Children’s Books, New Writing North, and Bloodaxe Books. Practice-based workshops are taught by established writers, including Andrew Crumey, Laura Fish, Tina Gharavi, W N Herbert, Jackie Kay, Alison Light, Jack Mapanje, Sean O’Brien, Peter Reynolds, Jo Shapcott and Margaret Wilkinson.
At the centre of the MA are the writing workshops in prose, poetry or scriptwriting through which, together with individual consultations, you are helped to develop your own writing.
These practice-based modules are complemented by optional academic modules. You may either submit a portfolio of your own work or write a dissertation on an appropriate literary topic.
