Programme Overview

This exciting programme aims to provide environmental and related science graduates with the advanced conceptual understanding, detailed factual knowledge, and specialist technical skills appropriate for successful careers as ecological consultants.

You will gain comprehensive understanding and knowledge of:

  • current environmental problems and insights facing the sector 
  • regulatory and quality frameworks within which a business functions
  • scientific research methods
  • critical evaluation of information through data analysis, interpretation and presentation of results

You will also be able to pursue individual interests through optional modules and a research project. The research project may be laboratory based or done in a relevant environmental industry depending on your individual interests. The key to the research project is flexibility and you will be encouraged to pursue your own interests with support from academic staff.

+Entrance Requirements

Normally a second-class Honours degree in a related discipline (e.g. environmental sciences, biological sciences). 

Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based) or equivalent.  

Our INTO Newcastle University Centre can provide extra tuition to help you meet the University's English language requirements.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

International Students, consult your own government for funding. The University offers International Scholarships, and there are funding opportunities by external organisations available.

Students should consult their employers for sponsorship opportunities.

You may be asked to contribute to the cost of essential field classes; however, some financial assistance may be available.

There is no closing date for this programme. However, international students applying for September 2013 entry should apply by Friday 12 July 2013 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
