The MA and MEd in Education is essentially a professional qualification, which aims to equip you with the skills to research your own professional practice, either current or future.
The programme has a generalist route and four specialist pathways, leading to a different award:
If you follow the generalist route you take modules from different pathways.
This is a programme designed for professionals in all sectors of education.
Each specialist pathway has a core taught module and a selection of relevant optional modules.
Find out more information about the pathway modules:
All students study a compulsory research module that develops the skills needed to carry out a research study and undertake a research project. There is an extended induction programme that provides you with support for advanced study, including assignment writing and information and communications and technology (ICT) training.
You should have a good first degree, preferably an upper-second-class Honours degree or higher in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification. An education-related degree or experience in an education-related setting is preferable.
Applicants whose first language is not English must have a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in each other sub-section, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent.
Our INTO Newcastle University Centre can provide extra tuition to help you meet the University's English language requirements.
The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements.
The Teaching Agency (formerly the Training and Development Agency for Schools)
