This programme is an excellent introduction to environmental geochemistry if you wish to follow a research-oriented career path. It also equips you, with advanced understanding, knowledge and specialist technical skills for a career the environmental industry with a specialism in the interactions between petroleum and the environment.

This programme complements the MSc Environmental Consultancy and MSc Petroleum Geochemistry degrees.
The programme meets the accreditation requirements of the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates with an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng Honours or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng/BSc Honours degree. It is designed to achieve the ECUK Output Standards for Accredited Engineering Programmes and takes account of the QAA’s FHEQ Qualification Descriptors, the QAA Subject Benchmark Statement for Engineering, and the University’s Graduate Skills Framework.
You complete compulsory taught modules followed by a summer research project written up as a dissertation.
A range of dissertation projects is offered including laboratory, field work and computer-based modelling. You will have the opportunity to work alongside one of our established research groups, and some placement projects may be available with industrial partners.

A minimum of a second-class Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in an engineering or science subject. Other qualifications or relevant professional experience will also be considered.
Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, with a minimum of 6.0 in each category, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
