Programme Overview

This programme, run in partnership with Newcastle Law School, focuses on the importance of financial regulation and supervision and the role it plays in ensuring that confidence and stability return to, and enhance the recovery of the world’s financial markets. The programme offers candidates an opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks, whilst acquiring technical expertise in the field of finance and financial regulation. This degree of specialism would not otherwise be available on a general law programme.

+Modules

Compulsory modules introduce the essentials of financial theory and corporate policy, legal and regulatory technique and research methods. They also evaluate and critically appraise issues such as: the regulatory failures which may have contributed to the recent financial crisis; the legal structures and pitfalls of running depositor protection schemes; litigation and the management of crisis; investor fraud and banking systems failures; how the law can help control the use of the financial system for money laundering and terrorist support; what responsibilities the banks and financial institutions themselves have to counter money laundering and the financing of terrorist activities.

Optional modules enable you to acquire additional knowledge of other financial and legal topics. You also research and write a dissertation.
