Programme Overview

This innovative MA programme focuses on the relations between landscape, culture and society, and on the various ways that landscape is practised, represented and imagined. It is not tied to any particular discipline, but is likely to appeal to those with a qualification in landscape architecture, planning, architecture, geography, fine art, creative writing, film, or digital media. The MA will be of particular interest to mid-career professionals who wish to develop their practice and thinking, and also to those who may be considering working towards a PhD in creative practice.

+Modules

The MA, which includes lectures, workshops, seminars and tutorials, alongside studio practice and critical reviews, is intended for those who wish to develop their critical thinking in tandem with their individual practice, whether this be in environmental art, digital architecture, photography or landscape planning.

You will undertake a creative practice research project, compulsory modules and optional modules. Finally you complete a dissertation which will reflect upon and extend your creative practice research or may take the form of stand-alone study on a relevant topic of your choice.

The compulsory creative practice research project will be assessed through a critical review and the work produced on the programme will be exhibited in public.

Though based in the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape, the programme will involve staff from the School of Geography, Politics and Sociology and the School of Arts and Cultures.  You will have access to studio space within the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape and may also, by agreement, use the facilities offered by the University’s Culture Lab.
