Programme Overview

Please note that this programme is only available from September 2013.

This new programme builds on the success of the suite of Archaeology Masters' programmes at Newcastle, but offers students a unique opportunity to study both Greek and Byzantine Archaeology as one degree programme. The programme will be particularly relevant for students with a background in ancient history, archaeology, art history, classics and related disciplines. It will prepare you to study at PhD level, or to enter a profession requiring high-level skills in literacy, research and project management.

Throughout the programme students have access to outstanding library holdings and unique museum resources, including the £26million Great North Museum, of which the University is a partner. The museum has bought together internationally important collections of Prehistoric, Greek, Etruscan, Roman and Romano-British artefacts. You will also have access to specialist facilities including the Gertrude Bell Archive, the Wolfson Archaeology Laboratory and the Shefton collections of Greek archaeology. With Hadrian’s Wall World Heritage Site close by, students are also offered the opportunity to undertake regular study trips and fieldwork projects on site.
