Programme Overview

This programme is suitable for students who have no prior knowledge of the history of the Americas as well as those who have previously studied the region. In addition to subject-specific modules, you also receive research training which prepares you for the dissertation and provides the basic skills and knowledge required to continue with academic research in history at PhD level.

This advanced-level programme offers a unique opportunity to study key historical themes of the entire western hemisphere: Latin America, the Caribbean and North America. It allows you to explore comparative history, as well as more specialised work on a particular place that interests you. It is an excellent stepping stone towards a PhD, but will also suit students who want to study to improve their transferable skills and career prospects, or simply out of personal interest. Although it covers aspects of Latin American history, no specific language skills are required.
