Programme Overview

This research training programme, recognised by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), focuses on the development of knowledge in human geography within the context of advanced training in research. It provides advanced-level training in research skills, methods and theories to enable you to pursue a career in research, either in the academic sector or with public, private or voluntary sector organisations.

+Entrance Requirements

Normally at least an upper-second-class Honours degree in a relevant arts, humanities or social science subject such as geography, planning, urban studies, environmental studies, sociology, politics or business studies. Applicants who hold non-standard qualifications and/or have an appropriate level of relevant experience, will be encouraged to apply and will be considered on an individual basis.

Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent.

There is no closing date for this programme. However, international students applying for September 2013 entry should apply by Friday 12 July 2013 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
