Programme Overview

Hydroinformatics is the new discipline that applies advances in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to the management of the waters of the world.  This programme aims to provide opportunities for graduates in a range of scientific and engineering disciplines to become hydroinformatic professionals.  It provides a quantitative training in hydrology, hydraulics and modern ICT within the context of water management. Graduates will be equipped to follow a career in the water sector.

This degree is accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) undergraduate first degree or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng / BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree.  See The Joint Board of Moderators' website for further information. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).

The programme begins with field visits to case studies in the north of England; these provide the stimulus and context for the formal teaching as well as an informal setting in which to get to know staff and fellow students.
