Hydroinformatics is the new discipline that applies advances in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to the management of the waters of the world. This programme aims to foster a common international technical culture by educating students from all over the world, drawing upon the resources and expertise of universities across Europe. It provides opportunities for graduates with degrees in a range of scientific and engineering disciplines to become hydroinformatic professionals. It provides a quantitative training in hydrology, hydraulics and modern ICT within the context of water management and a common international technical culture. Graduates will be equipped to follow a career in the water sector.
This degree is accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) undergraduate first degree or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng / BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. See The Joint Board of Moderators' website for further information. The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).
This programme offers a joint degree between five European universities as a part of the Erasmus Mundus co-operation and mobility programme. The partner universities are: Newcastle University (UK); University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis (France); Brandenburg University of Technology at Cottbus (Germany); Budapest University of Technology and Economics (Hungary); Technical University of Catalonia (Spain).
You take modules to a total of 120 ECTS credits, including 36 ECTS credits at a different institution from your home institution. The programme spans four semesters over two years:
A minimum of an upper-second-class Honours degree, or an international equivalent, in one of the following: engineering (any branch); environmental sciences; physics; computer sciences; geography; mathematics; chemistry; geology or a similar subject. Advanced level mathematics is required. The teaching language is English and applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent. A basic knowledge of one of the other languages (German, French, Spanish, Hungarian) should be acquired.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements.
UK/EU students – students can receive Erasmus exchange grants while studying at their home institution, and Leonardo grants while undertaking professional practice placements in industry. Additionally, European students receive an EU Erasmus Mundus grant for up to three months if visiting one of the collaborating institutions in Singapore, India, Switzerland, South Korea and Argentina.
International students – 24 EU Erasmus Mundus scholarships are available per intake.
