This programme enables you to acquire high-quality interpreting (i.e. spoken rather than written transfer) skills so you may enter the interpreting profession, especially in marketable fields such as technology, commerce, international relations and journalism.

Stage 1 entry
An upper-second-class Honours degree or higher or a degree with a minimum average of 75 per cent (or GPA 2.75) on your transcript. In addition, we require native English speaking applicants to have a good degree-level knowledge of Chinese. When applying, please enclose any evidence you may have to support your second language proficiency qualification.
Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 7.0, with a minimum of 6.5 in speaking and writing, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent.
Stage 2 entry (advanced)
An upper-second-class Honours degree or an equivalent. You must also have expert second-language knowledge.
Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 7.5 with a minimum of 7.0 in all sub-skills.
Native speakers of English should contact the School of Modern Languages for requirements of their second language proficiency.

The application deadline is 14 February 2014 however, due to enthusiastic and strong subscriptions to this programme, applications may be closed earlier if places are filled up. Interviews are compulsory to all applicants and will be held during spring.
To allow time for processing your application, you could consider to apply initially with as many available supporting documents as possible if you have not yet obtained an adequate IELTS certificate which may follow later.
Please note that all applicants should enter "MA in Translation and Interpreting" in their applications. For those who aim for the other specialized pathways, such as MA in Interpreting, the decision will be made after you have met all the entry requirements.
Please note: You will be required to pay a deposit of £1500 in order to secure your place after you have taken the interview, within 10 days after you are informed of having passed it. This will be offset against the tuition fees at registration.
