Linguistics and Applied linguistics
Supervision is available in all of the major areas of linguistics and a wide range of languages, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, phonetics and phonology, sociolinguistics and language acquisition and bilingualism. Supervision in applied linguistics include theories and practice of language teaching and learning, discourse analysis, computer-assisted language learning corpus linguistics, conversation analysis. Speech and language sciences
Supervision is available in all areas of speech and language development and disorder, with a focus on aphasia, motor speech disorders, developmental disorders and health services research. Research Degree Training and Skills Development
Our Humanities and Social Sciences Graduate School provides training in professional/key skills and research techniques, and hosts postgraduate events. We also encourage you to attend and to present papers you have written at our regular postgraduate seminars. International literary and linguistic scholars contribute to our visiting speakers programmes.
MPhil: at least an upper-second-class Honours degree or international equivalent.
PhD: a Master’s degree in a subject with a considerable linguistic component
