Programme Overview

This MSc programme is designed to provide you with a broad education in diverse areas of medical sciences.

You will gain an understanding of the principles and practices that underpin contemporary medical sciences and biomedicine.

The programme is suitable for graduates with a background in biomedical sciences, medicine or dentistry and for graduates from more varied backgrounds who require a conversion course that will allow them to acquire expertise and specialist knowledge in different areas of medical sciences.

A major strength of the programme is its clinical and translational nature. You will acquire knowledge and develop understanding of aspects of medical sciences research practice and relevant legal, ethical and safety considerations.

The knowledge and skills acquired will be relevant to a wide range of careers, including those in the health sector, academia and industry for which a Masters' level education is desirable or essential. The programme is also an excellent preparation for a higher level research degree.

+Modules

Embedded in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, taught subject focused modules are delivered over two semesters by a mixture of scientists and clinicians with expertise in their specialist areas.

In the third semester you work exclusively on your selected dissertation.  You will experience:

  • hypothesis-led medical research and analysis
  • presentation of research findings and scientific hypotheses
  • data and interpretation in the context of current scientific literature.
