The MEd in Practitioner Enquiry is a professional qualification, which aims to equip you with the skills to research your own professional practice in education. Practitioner enquiry is strongly influenced by the student’s allegiance to their own learners, their belief that practice can always be improved and, where appropriate, their recognition of the priorities of their employing institution.
This is a part-time programme designed specifically for working teachers, lecturers and education leaders. It provides you with opportunities to develop your professional and academic knowledge and skills, which in turn enhance the learning opportunities of your pupils, students and colleagues.
Essentially the programme is a research and development process that encourages you to be professionally critical and promotes innovative practice in the context of teaching as an evidence-based profession. In addition to the generic route, a leadership pathway is available through the selection of specific modules and a leadership dissertation.
All students complete taught modules, to suit their individual interests and complement their career progression. There are also specific modules designed to support early career and leadership progression. In each module, appropriate professional learning is based on exploring the links between practice, theory and research. Assessed work requires you to use both reflective and enquiry-based techniques in your own professional context to construct a portfolio. You also write a dissertation.
