Programme Overview

This programme is designed for those who wish to work in the transport profession and have an understanding of transport, environmental intrusion, its measurement and mitigation. It draws on the latest research in these areas, some of which is being carried out by Newcastle's Transport Operations Research Group. The course will provide a sound overview of the transport profession, with specific teaching about air pollution and the modelling of emissions.

+Modules

This degree is accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) undergraduate first degree or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng / BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree.  See www.jbm.org.uk for further information.  The programme is also accredited by the Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM).  See www.ciwem.org for further information. Ten taught modules are chosen. These will mostly be transport modules but it may be possible to choose modules from other subject areas with approval of the Degree Programme Director. You must also undertake a research project written up as a dissertation.

The programme includes a study tour to Europe to examine the different approaches to transport management in other countries, to see the operation of various public transport systems and to study the principles behind advanced transport planning software.

+Entrance Requirements

Normally a minimum of a second-class Honours degree in a relevant discipline or an international equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent.

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has rules for international students regarding minimum English language requirements.

There are two intakes for this programme each year - one in September and one in January.

There is no closing date for this programme. However, international students applying for September 2013 entry should apply by Friday 12 July 2013 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
