This programme is designed for both practising professionals and new graduates to develop and apply advanced skills and understanding to the planning, management and operation of transport systems. It aims to help you establish a responsible attitude towards the needs of society and the environment and to pay particular regard to transport safety considerations. You also acquire a range of town and country planning skills.
This degree is accredited as meeting the requirements for Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng) for candidates who have already acquired an Accredited CEng (Partial) BEng (Hons) undergraduate first degree or an Accredited IEng (Full) BEng / BSc (Hons) undergraduate first degree. Ten taught modules are chosen, comprising transport modules from the School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences. You may also be permitted to choose modules from other subject areas. You must also undertake a research project written up as a dissertation.
The programme includes a study tour to Europe to examine the different approaches to transport management in other countries, to see the operation of various public transport systems and to study the principles behind advanced transport planning software.

Normally a minimum of a second-class Honours degree in a relevant discipline or an international equivalent. Applicants whose first language is not English normally require IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent.

There are two intakes for this programme each year - one in September and one in January.
There is no closing date for this programme. However, international students applying for September 2013 entry should apply by Friday 12 July 2013 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.
Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
