Programme Overview

This interdisciplinary programme is designed to equip graduates with an interdisciplinary grasp of the environmental and socio-economic challenges facing tropical coastal zones so that, as experts, they may facilitate sustainable development through appropriate understanding and management.

+Modules

There are almost 300 graduates from this programme successfully working throughout the tropics for non-governmental organisations, companies and national and international agencies. The programme provides you with an advanced understanding of the key factors that underpin effective coastal management including cultural, legal, political, scientific and technological dimensions.

For the MSc you take compulsory modules, optional modules, and complete a research project. For the Diploma you take compulsory modules, optional modules and a study in coastal management.

The programme is supported by inputs from other academic institutions, industry and government and non-governmental organisations. Hands-on training is provided through supervised independent study for the main MSc research project (four months), lectures, practical classes and a wide range of case studies using real-world examples.

Formative and peer assessment is used extensively, and a logbook is used to document progress across the taught part of the programme. Extra costs may be incurred for fieldwork as part of this degree; however, some financial support may be available.
