Immersive business experience

Throughout the year we will present you with carefully structured practical activities and projects. You will work with real businesses in order to:

  • develop your consulting skills
  • enhance your own self-understanding
  • integrate and apply your MBA learning to make a real difference to business and your own development

Business in Action

Our Business in Action module runs throughout the year. It offers you an innovative approach to management education. You will take part in a range of real time challenges and experiences, including a week-long Business Awareness Experience. You will apply your skills and learning to real operational and strategic issues within a constrained timeframe.

Personal and Professional Transformation

This module develops your understanding of your own career values and drivers. It offers a structured series of:

  • skills enhancement workshops
  • personality testing
  • leadership development activities
  • career development planning sessions

You will work with the module team and our dedicated MBA Careers Advisor on your personal and professional development plan. They will make sure you make the most of your MBA across your future career.

The Career Enhancement Experience also forms part of this module. A former Human Resource Director and a range of human resource and learning and development practitioners will deliver the sessions. This experience will expose you to the sorts of activities used in large corporate recruitment. We will prepare you for the recruitment processes used by major employers.

International study tour 

You will have the opportunity to take part in a one week international study tour. This trip will include visits to globally oriented businesses, where you will examine how different cultural contexts influence diverse business issues.

Corporate projects

You will have the opportunity to explore in practice the challenges and opportunities experienced by organisations. We source projects across organisations and industries, to give you exposure at a regional, national or international level. 

Management consultancy

This project allows you to build on the consultancy and business skills you have learnt through the course. You will apply your learning to make an impact in a live business with either a UK based or international management consultancy project.

You will work with your fellow students as a consulting team to respond to an organisation's project brief. You will present a series of recommendations in response to the organisation's objectives.

Individual project

To complete your MBA, you will undertake an individual project which will be delivered as a written report. You can choose from a range of project options. Your choices will include a traditional dissertation, a business plan or a corporate project.

Leadership development

You will hone your skills in leadership, critical thinking, self-reflection, consultancy and communication. You will also work to improve your performance while gaining business knowledge and skills that you can apply to your own career progression.  

Leadership series

The leadership series provides students, alumni and corporate partners with insight and knowledge from business leaders around the world. It covers a range of topical business issues.

The series is a great opportunity for you to learn from those in leadership positions and network with the Business School's broader community.

A 2:1 honours degree, or international equivalent. 

In your CV and personal statement you need to show at least three years of continuous work experience. You should have experience in a relevant role with some managerial responsibilities. This could include management of:

To study this course you need to meet our Band 6 English Language requirements:

Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub-skills)

If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a pre-sessional English course.

We suggest international students apply at least two months before the course starts. This is so that you have enough time to make the necessary arrangements.

Deposit

If you live outside the UK/EU you must:

  • pay a deposit of £1,500
  • or submit an official letter of sponsorship

The deposit is payable after you receive an offer to study at Newcastle University. The deposit is non-refundable, but is deducted from your tuition fees when you register.
