Types of Taught Degrees
A
taught programme may offer three different qualifications. For each qualification the level of study is the same but the number of credits you study is different:
- Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert) - 60 credits
- Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) - 120 credits
- Master’s award (eg MA, MSc, MBA) - 180 credits
Master's awards
The titles of master's awards vary to reflect the subject area studied. Awards available include:
- MA – Master of Arts
- MBA – Master of Business Administration
- MClinEd – Master of Clinical Education
- MClinRes – Master of Clinical Research
- MEd – Master of Education
- MFA – Master of Fine Art
- LLM – Master of Laws
- MSc – Master of Science
We also offer the following awards for selected subjects. These awards contain a significant research element and are classed as research degrees:
- LLM – Master of Law
- MMus – Master of Music
- MRes – Master of Research
- MLitt – Master of Literature
- MPhil –Master of Philosophy

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses
The University offers a range of courses, many of which award academic credit and may be included in the University's Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme (CATS). Additionally, some of our courses carry professional body accreditation.
