We provide typical funding sources for each one of our taught programmes and research degrees.

Main funding providers are listed in the programme details and more information about each provider is in our funding database.

It's also useful to speak to staff in your prospective academic school about how previous students have financed their studies.

Obtaining funding for postgraduate study is competitive, so be realistic about your chances. You may need to raise funding from different sources to cover all your costs:

  • university funding
  • external awards
  • scholarships from agencies and charities
  • industrial sponsorship
  • private borrowing

At Newcastle University, the only programmes with mandatory funding for UK/EU students are:

If you are not eligible for, or are unsuccessful in obtaining, research council funding you may have to consider portfolio funding. This is when you get a little funding from different sources:
