Full details of AHRC eligibility criteria can be found in the AHRC’s Guide to Student Funding (PDF: 500KB).

    How to Apply
There are two application processes to complete, an application to your programme at Newcastle through the online portal (Step 3) and an application for an AHRC award (Steps 1 and 2). Please note the deadline for both applications as they differ.

    Step 1
To apply for an AHRC Postgraduate Studentship you should contact the subject area contact (see below) in the first instance. Applicants for Doctoral Awards should then liaise with their proposed supervisor regarding their funding nomination application. Applicants for Professional Preparation Master's and Research Preparation Master's Awards should liaise with the relevant degree programme director.

    Step 2
The University’s AHRC funding application pack (Word doc: 2.37MB) contains the AHRC funding application form, referees' report form and associated guidance.

You should develop a University AHRC funding application form in consultation with your proposed supervisor and submit it to the subject area contact no later than 5pm on Thursday 21 February 2013.

The University's AHRC funding application form includes referees' report forms. Please note that Newcastle University will not contact your referees. It is your responsibility to send your referees the Referee’s Report Form and ensure references are submitted prior to the deadline.

The completed nomination form and references must be submitted to the subject area contact no later than 5pm on Thursday 21 February 2013. Late applications will not be eligible.

    Step 3
In order to be considered for an AHRC Postgraduate Studentship you must have also submitted an application for a place on your chosen postgraduate programme by no later than Thursday 7 February 2013.

Your university postgraduate application must include detailed transcripts and proof of academic qualifications.

Applications must be completed via the University’s online postgraduate application form.

You will need to enter your admission application number (from your university postgraduate application) on your AHRC funding nomination form (existing doctoral students at Newcastle University are not required to complete this step).
