NERC/EPSRC studentships - School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences (Geotechnics and Structures)

    Closing Date: 9th January 2012

    Details:

The School of Civil Engineering and Geosciences expects to offer 5 fully-funded NERC/EPSRC studentships for PhD research, commencing autumn 2012, for the following projects:

The studentships also cover the following areas:

Applicants for funding must meet the Research Councils' normal UK residence criteria. The deadline for applications is Monday 9 January 2012. Interviews will be held on 21 and 22 February 2012. For further details contact melissa.ware@ncl.ac.uk.

The project descriptions are provided as a guide to all applicants, whether UK/EU or overseas. They represent well-planned, achievable PhD projects in the research topics that are of greatest interest to our staff, and which have realistic resourcing requirements. We strongly encourage applicants to consider these topics before deciding whether to develop their own research proposals. In general, preference will be given to applicants whose research topics are taken from or closely aligned to these project descriptions.

Applicants, whether seeking NERC/EPSRC funding or not, may instead propose their own research topic for consideration. To ensure that it has a suitable level of academic challenge, novelty, and feasibility and that it is achievable within the School’s resources and supervisory expertise, applicants should begin dialogue with their prospective supervisors at an early stage. Receipt of an acceptable outline project proposal, before commencing study, will form part of the conditions of offer of a place. See the FAQs for more information.
