Commonwealth Shared Scholarships Scheme

    Details:

    The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is a joint initiative between the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and the University to support students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the United Kingdom.

    The University has received five awards under this scheme to support scholars commencing their studies in 2013/14. The awards are available to students taking the following courses:

    MSc in Agricultural and Environmental Science

    MSc Transport and Business Management

    MSc Transport and the Environment 

    MSc Transport Engineering and Operations 

    MSc Transportation Planning and Policy

    MSc in Applied Hydrogeology

    MSc in Drug Chemistry

    MSc degrees in Bioinformatics

    MSc in Electrical Power

    MSc in Renewable Energy, Enterprise and Management (REEM)

    MA International Politics (Globalisation, Poverty and Development)  

    MSc Town Planning

    MSc Public Health and Health Services

    The scholarship covers:
    • Tuition fees*
    • Living expenses
    • Return economy air fare

    *Please note that candidates should be sufficiently fluent in written and spoken English to pursue their proposed studies. A pre-sessional English course is not covered by the scholarship.

    Eligibility
    You are eligible to apply for a DFID award if:
    • you have been offered a place on one of the eligible degree programmes above
    • you have a first degree at either first-class or upper second-class level or the equivalent
    • you are not currently living in a developed country or have previously studied for a year or more in a developed county
    • you come from one of the following list of countries: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Botswana, British Virgin Islands, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji*, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Montserrat, Mozambique, Namibia, Nauru, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, Rwanda, St. Helena, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos, Tuvalu, Uganda, Vanuatu, Western Samoa, Zambia, Zimbabwe*

    *Awards are offered to build the capacity of civil society organisations.

    The deadline for receipt of applications is Friday, 22nd March 2013.
