Provided by: The Fulbright Programme
Established in 1946, the Fulbright Scholarship programme aims to increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries, through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills. Approximately 6000 grants were awarded through the Fulbright Programme in 2008 to U.S. students, teachers, professionals, and scholars to study, teach, lecture, and conduct research in more than 155 countries, and to their counterparts from other countries to engage in similar activities in the United States.
In general, grants are one academic year in length—between 9 and 12 months, corresponding to the academic calendar in the country of study.
The awards are made on a competitive basis, and may cover:
• travel
• maintenance
• and tuition fees
