Computing Cluster

You have access to one of the best University computing services in the UK, provided by Information Systems and Services (ISS).

All of our computers offer a high-speed network connection, with free Wi-Fi widely available across campus.

You can continue to use your own e-mail address, but you will be provided with a University e-mail account for correspondence with University staff (e.g. lecturers, services such as accommodation or the library).

Computing facilities include:

  • over 1,400 fully networked PCs, across 40 computer clusters some with 24-houraccess
  • express workstations across campus
  • free wireless connectivity to the Internet and University network is widely available across campus
  • web hosting service for publishing your own web pages and blogs
  • accessible equipment such as height adjustable desks, large monitors and posture aids
  • easy access to a comprehensive Linux/Unix service
  • remote access service so you can access University software and file store from anywhere via the Internet
  • Mobile-friendly apps can help you find the nearest available free PC, view your timetable or contact your tutor
  • laptop loan scheme for use within the Library

In addition, there are also several hundred PCs in academic schools.

We have staffed help desks offering support and a phone and e-mail helpline to provide assistance with using the University's computing network and to remedy any IT-related problems you may encounter.
