Computing Facilities
You have access to one of the best University computing services in the UK, provided by Information Systems and Services (ISS).
You can use your laptop or any of our 40 computer clusters (with over 1,300 PCs), some of which are open 24 hours per day.
You can continue to use your own e-mail address, but you will be provided with a University e-mail account for correspondence with University staff (eg lecturers, services such as accommodation or the library).
Computing facilities include:
- fast access to the campus network and the Internet
- word processing, e-mail, secure file store and an exceptional range of specialised and general purpose software
- easy access to a comprehensive Linux/Unix service
- web publishing
- network docking and/or wireless access in many campus locations and in accommodation
- remote access service so you can access University software and file store from anywhere via the Internet
In addition, there are also several hundred PCs in academic schools.
We have staffed help desks offering support and a phone and e-mail helpline to provide assistance with using the University's computing network and to remedy any IT-related problems you may encounter.
