Multi-million pound refurbishment
NUSU reopened in 2011 following an £8m refurbishment. The inside of the Grade II listed building has been transformed, with some outstanding new facilities in the heart of campus:
The Union Building has the best social reputation on campus. It hosts a variety of events including gigs and an annual CAMRA Real Ale Festival.

“The Students' Union is a good area to work in the communal spaces they provide. I joined the Caving Society and went on a trip to some caves in Yorkshire. It was great. I met a lot of friends and because it was a challenging experience, we all helped each other. I also use the MENS Bar for a coffee and to meet with friends.”
