Newcastle University's Students' Union
Newcastle University’s Students’ Union (NUSU) is a gateway to a wide range of services, facilities and opportunities to help you enjoy your time at university and develop valuable new skills.
Multi-million pound refurbishment
NUSU reopened in 2011 following an £8m refurbishment. The inside of the Grade II listed building has been transformed, with some outstanding new facilities in the heart of campus:
- 24-hour computer clusters and social learning areas
- brand new Student Advice Centre
- a dedicated sports, societies and volunteering area
- revamped bar serving food and drinks
- huge gig and event space, hosting live gigs and regular Saturday club nights
- Subway sandwich shop, Starbucks coffee, banking services and ATMs
- café with facilities to work and relax
- shop selling student essentials
- IT repair centre
- print design service
The Union Building has the best social reputation on campus. It hosts a variety of events including gigs and an annual CAMRA Real Ale Festival.
It's a great place to enjoy a drink with friends or get a bite to eat. The on-site shops make it easy to pick up study essentials between lectures.
The Students’ Union has:
- Give It a Go Scheme programme of one-off taster activities, helping you to make the most of your spare time
- Go Play programme, giving you chance to try a new sport under the guidance and support of coaches, with no experience or commitment necessary
The Union Building is also home to:
- over 200 student societies. The Postgraduate and Mature Student Society provides a programme of social and cultural events
- The Courier, our weekly student newspaper which won the 2012 Guardian Student Media Award's Student Publication of the Year
- Newcastle Student Radio, which broadcasts 24 hours a day
- Athletic Union, which coordinates about 57 sports clubs
