Highlights
There are so many opportunities: the University helped me find a work placement at a local charity and I also found another part-time job. Both of these were relevant to my studies and have helped me progress in my career. The city is beautiful and there's so much to do - I still come back when I can! I made friends at Newcastle who I know will be friends for life. University-wise, the quality of supervision throughout my research project was exceptional.
Career Path
Soon after completing my MSc, I moved to London to work as a Research Assistant at University College London. A year later I started an MRC-funded PhD studentship at UCL's department of Epidemiology and Public Health.
Careers Service
The Careers Service was supportive and thought-provoking. I had a work placement at a charity based in Byker on a scheme where you do 100 hours and get a £600 bursary - that was brilliant.
Current Role
I'm researching the extent to which people under-estimate their alcohol consumption using a mixed method approach. Doing my MSc research project is what inspired me to to a PhD.
Career Highlight
So far in my PhD I have organised a conference, been invited to speak at the Health Survey for England Report Launch and at the Royal Statistical Society, and been to the House of Commons - all in my first year!
