Student Profile

Elizabeth from United Kingdom

Environmental Science Bsc Honours / Clean Technology MSc

Choosing Newcastle

I knew that Newcastle had a strong science faculty and I was attracted by their university farms and laboratories. My brother was also studying here and said the nightlife was excellent. If I had my chance again I would still pick the same university.

Studying at Newcastle

The quality of the teaching was brilliant. I was lucky to be taught by excellent teachers and lecturers. The library and computer facilities are particularly good and you should really make use of the Careers Service as this is excellent!

Social facilities

The social life is top notch. I really could not have asked for more fun. It is definitely worth going into halls at the beginning as that is a great way of making lots of friends. I was in the Dance Society for the whole time I was at Newcastle. I helped to run the society as secretary during my final year. This looked great on my CV and was commented on during interviews.

Career path so far

Straight after graduating from my undergraduate degree I did an MSc in Clean Technology at Newcastle. When I graduated from my MSc I became an Environmental Consultant with AMEC Earth and Environmental Ltd. in South West London; this involved a lot of overseas travel, sometimes for long periods of time. I am currently working at Faber Maunsell in their Sustainable Development Team, I have been here just over 4 months and was given a pay rise last week - I think this demonstrates the strength of the market and the need of graduates with science degrees.
