Philosophical Studies is a interdisciplinary research group for promoting pragmatic and scholarly studies of knowledge-human interfaces. It is an alliance of experienced lecturers, researchers and supervisors representing diverse research interests exploring the relationship between conceptual frameworks and the arts, culture, the environment, ethics, metaphysics, religion, science and society.
We are developing a thriving research culture, with our postgraduates working in Philosophical Studies, or studying jointly with other units in the university (including Music and with the Culture Lab).We have lecture, seminar and multimedia rooms and a postgraduate office, complete with dedicated computer equipment. We are often able to offer tutorial work for postgraduates.
Staff offer expertise in most of the major areas of philosophy, including: continental philosophy (German idealism, existentialism, phenomenology, Frankfurt School, poststructuralism); social and political philosophy; epistemology; metaphysics; aesthetics (in particular the philosophy of literature and the philosophy of music); and ethics.
