24 months full or part time. A part-time exemption may be available for dentists who have suitable postgraduate experience, and who are able to give assessed treatment for patients within their own surgeries.

The aim of the programme is to enable dentists to acquire advanced skills and knowledge in the field of restorative dentistry, integrating theory with practice. It provides the foundations for: enhanced general dental practice; specialist practice (overseas); part of specialist training within restorative dentistry (but only if you are enrolled on a training programme recognised by the Northern Deanery eg Specialist Registrar in Restorative Dentistry); clinical academia; community dental services.
The programme is divided into three areas: academic training; patient management and laboratory skills; a laboratory or clinically-based project leading to a dissertation. Subject elements include: conservation; endodontics; periodontology; prosthodontics; dental materials science; interrelated subjects (including Temporomandibular Disorders); statistics; dissertation writing. Clinical skills courses include an operative technique course; practical work on a clinical simulator; die and model construction, waxing, casting and finishing; occlusion and restorations; a partial denture course and implant course.

A dental degree recognised by the General Dental Council as being sufficient for the purposes of temporary registration. GDC registration (full or temporary) is now essential for students to have access to Dental Hospital Patients and must be obtained before the end of the first term. Two or more years of experience at the start of the programme is preferred.
Candidates whose first language is not English require a minimum of IELTS 6.5 (in each section), TOEFL 90 (Internet-based), or equivalent. The selection committee may at its discretion recommend a period of pre-sessional English training with INTO Newcastle University.
You must have the required immunisation against blood-borne viral disease and must not have any disease which would constitute a hazard to patients otherwise you will not be allowed clinical access. You will be given a health check soon after registration by the Occupational Health Department of the Newcastle Hospitals NHS Trust.
There is no formal interview for entry to the MSc, although applicants are encouraged to visit the School of Dental Sciences to discuss their studies.?

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has now revised its rules for Tier 4 student visa applications regarding English language ability. You are now required to hold a minimum of IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) in all sub skills (listening, writing, reading and speaking) to be eligible to apply for a Tier 4 visa.
Please note that the University?s English language requirements are normally higher (see above).
