Aims

To enhance your employability by enabling you to acquire the knowledge and understanding, skills and aptitudes required for a career in cross-cultural communication and international relations.

Programme Description

You take taught modules in language and communication (60 credits) from a selection that may include: language and cross cultural communication; English in the world; sociolinguistics; the social psychology of communication; culture and intercultural communication. You also take 60 credits of modules from the politics specialism, which typically include: integration in Europe; theories and theorists of international political economy; international relations theory; concepts and methods in the study of politics; the state in the international political economy; American foreign policy; and the politics of global change.

Teaching is by lectures, case-based workshops, interactive seminars, and individual tutorials. Assessment is by course work (examinations, oral presentations and submitted work) and the research portfolio. The research portfolio (60 credits) is different from a conventional dissertation. It consists of a set of research files where you discuss the theoretical background and methodological approaches to cross-cultural communication, and conduct a supervised research project in this area.
