Aims

Subsea engineering plays a vital role in the exploitation of oil and gas resources. This programme has been developed in conjunction with firms in the industry and is designed for both experienced and recently graduated engineers who want to develop their subsea knowledge. Modules are delivered in short ‘intensive schools’ and feature industry guest speakers, site visits, industry-based projects and multidisciplinary teaching.

Programme Description

You take compulsory modules (120 credits) which are delivered as short, intensive schools with time after the module to complete the assignments, where applicable. The modules include: fundamentals of subsea engineering ; design and manufacture of pipelines, umbilicals and risers; materials and corrosion aspects of subsea engineering; subsea control and communication systems; advanced operations management; deepwater pipeline design; subsea project management application; subsea surveying, positioning and installation; reliability and integrity management of subsea systems; and dynamics of subsea installations. You also undertake a research project leading to a dissertation (60 credits). The research project is supported by an academic supervisor and may be conducted with an industrial partner which, where appropriate, may be your employer.
