The fees for students whose fee status is classed as international are £5,260.

Please note that for international students it is a requirement of student visas that you must be following a full-time degree programme. However, in some circumstances part time study is possible. It is also possible to undertake the PGCert (e-learning) and PGDip (e-learning) in your home country.

Aims

This programme has been developed, and is delivered, by Newcastle University with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. It provides recent graduates and professionals within the NHS, ancillary services and industry with a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in planning, conducting, analysing and writing up clinical research in the context of your own research roles, responsibilities and interests.

Programme Description

The programme is structured so that you can complete modules and progress through the awards. If you complete 60, 120 or 180 credits within the agreed timescale you will graduate with a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Certificate (e-learning), Postgraduate Diploma (e-learning) Postgraduate Diploma or MClinRes, respectively.

Entrance Requirements

To be considered for the Certificate, Diploma or MClinRes, you should have either a minimum of a second-class Honours degree in a relevant subject or an MB BS or BDS, or equivalent. We also welcome applications from professionals who have an appropriate degree, or equivalent professional qualifications in a profession allied to medicine, and have at least two years’ post-qualification experience. Applicants whose first language is not English require IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 90 (internet based), or equivalent.

Tier 4 Student Visas (International Applicants)

The UK Border Agency (UKBA) has now revised its rules for Tier 4 student visa applications regarding English language ability. You are now required to hold a minimum of IELTS 5.5 (or equivalent) in all sub skills (listening, writing, reading and speaking) to be eligible to apply for a Tier 4 visa.

Please note that the University’s English language requirements are normally higher (see above).

Typical Funding

A number of previous students have acquired funding from Non-Medical Education and Training (NMET) or the MRC.

How to Apply

The application deadline is 31 August but late applications will be considered on an individual basis. International students applying for September 2012 entry should apply by Friday 13 July 2012 to ensure that they have time to put appropriate arrangements in place.

Please note: As a formal condition of the offer to study at Newcastle University, students from outside the UK/EU are required to pay a deposit of £1,500 or submit an official letter of sponsorship for their chosen programme. The deposit payment is non refundable, but will be deducted from tuition fees upon registration.
