Contributions recognised
Dr Thom Brooks' work has been rewarded by two international organisations. He researches the area of political and legal philosophy and is the founding editor of the Journal of Moral Philosophy.
He has written widely on the moral, political and legal philosophy of German and British idealist philosophers such as Kant, Hegel, Green and Bosanquet. Much of this work has focussed on exploring their approaches to public policy, especially punishment and legal reform.
In recognition of his contributions to 19th Century philosophy, he has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society.
Dr Brooks has also been elected Academician in the Academy of Social Sciences because of the impact of his research in the field of social science.
Commenting upon the awards, he said, "I am both delighted and honoured to be named a Fellow of a body with the distinguished membership and history of the Royal Historical Society.
"Equally, I am honoured to have won such recognition for my work as to become an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences."

It’s Gold for SDU!
The Staff Development Unit has achieved recognition as an Investors in People (IIP) Gold organisation. The IIP Gold status is awarded to organisations who are seen to operate at the very highest levels of people management practice. It represents a true commitment to employees and demonstrates a solid foundation of good practice which remains challenging and aspirational.
Jo Clark, Assistant Director of HR (Development) said, “Staff within SDU are extremely proud to have achieved the prestigious Gold award. We have found that IIP provides the reality check to ensure, as an employer, we are truly engaging with our staff and turning best practice into reality.”
