Newcastle University’s Dr Carmen Hubbard has been selected to sit on a new panel set up to advise the European Commission on key policy issues around research.

The new “Voice of the Researchers” panel, will discuss issues such as the researchers' role and contribution to global societal challenges; improving the career prospects and working conditions of researchers in Europe; strengthening the social prestige and recognition of researchers; and developing new, interactive communication channels between researchers and the Commission.

An expert in Agricultural and Rural Development Policy, Dr Hubbard is based in the University’s Centre for Rural Economy and was one of 25 researchers selected from over 400 applicants.

The first meeting will be in Brussels on April 23.
