Leading with a theme of ‘firsts’ the magazine has brought together a dedicated team of students from across multiple disciplines who want to share their science stories.
As editors Carla Washbourne (PhD, Geosciences) and Elspeth Ritchie (EngD, Biopharmaceutical Process Development) point out, this is also the first time many of the contributors will have written for, designed, or edited a magazine.
With the support of Creative Director John Dawson (2nd Year Undergrad, Computer Sciences) and a wider team of deputy and sub editors, business and website support, the team celebrated the culmination of their hard work at the magazine’s launch party at the Great North Museum: Hancock, as the first print copies of {react} magazine were handed out this week. Brimming with tales from the lab, inspirational figures and cutting-edge science, the team hope that everyone will find something to make them gasp, laugh and think.
{react} magazine aims to give students opportunities to explore science communication, as writers, editors and designers of an engaging and dynamic publication. It will showcase research produced at Newcastle University, look at breaking Science News, and tackle wider issues in Science and Society.
The magazine will be produced on a termly basis, and will be distributed on campus, made available to local schools and sixth form colleges and public venues across the city. The website will be continually updated throughout the year with a variety of magazine stories and bespoke content.
You can pick up a copy around campus and at various venues in Newcastle City and follow {react} on Twitter: @react_magazine
