ScD for Emeritus Professor Trevor Page

Professor Page has been recognised by his alma mater, being awarded its highest honour.

Professor Page has been the Cookson Group Chair of Materials Engineering at Newcastle University since 1987. His research focuses on measuring and understanding the mechanical properties of very small volumes of materials, especially thin-coated systems, by depth-sensing ‘nanoindentation’ and high-resolution microscopies.

He has published extensively, is a regular conference invited speaker in Europe and the USA, was the first non-US Chairman of the Gordon Conference on Tribology in 2004.

A graduate of Jesus College, Cambridge University, Professor Page has been given their highest accolade in the ScD (Doctor of Science). It is awarded for distinction in scientific research and candidates are normally internationally acclaimed scientists who submit a collection of the publications that best illustrate their achievements over their career in scientific research.

On receiving the award, Professor Page, pictured, was quick to acknowledge the contribution of colleagues, research students and research fellows, here in the UK and abroad, hoping that they would feel a sense of shared recognition.

He continued, "It was a marvellous academic and personal experience to have my contribution to research and scholarship recognised by the University where I started my research career in materials science nearly 45 years ago, and to have a family celebration in Jesus, my old College."
