The University is hosting the event jointly with the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (RSA), an organisation committed to finding innovative practical solutions to today’s social challenges.
The keynote speaker is RSA’s chief executive, Matthew Taylor (pictured). Formerly Chief Adviser on Political Strategy to the then Prime Minister Tony Blair, Matthew was appointed to the Labour Party in 1994 to establish Labour’s rebuttal operation. During the 1997 General Election he was Labour’s Director of Policy and a member of the Party’s central election strategy team, and between 1999 and 2003 he was the Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research.
Professor Nick Wright, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation, said: “Through its ideas, research and 27,000-strong Fellowship, the RSA seeks to understand and enhance human capability with the aim of closing the gap between today’s reality and people’s hopes for a better world.
"These values are the essence of our Social Renewal theme, and we look forward to a stimulating debate which we hope will generate ideas for future collaboration between the University and the RSA”.
