The Apple iPad is expanding the tablet computer market and taking it from the niche geek realm into the mainstream.
Now these two young entrepreneurs, both PhD students in the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, are launching their own business – Slotzz – to produce bespoke, handmade cases for this year’s most sought-after gadget.
Leonie explained: “Your iPad is something to be proud of but when Simon first bought his I realised that none of the available cases quite fitted the bill in terms of looks and features. And so the Slotzz Jacket was born - a protective sleeve style case for the iPad.”
Using a range of fabrics, the customer is able to design their own case online and now the duo have also launched an iPhone jacket in the same choice of materials as the larger iPad.
Based in the Greenesfield Business Centre, in Gateshead, the company aims to establish themselves as a brand in the iDevice market and grow from there.
Simon says: “The feedback we get is great, so we listened and responded with an iPhone case. We hope to grow the company this way, listening to our customers and providing just what they want.
“We love seeing what unique creations people make - we’ve not produced any duplicate cases so far.”
Further information may be found on their website or you can visit Leonie and Simon at the Hardwick Hall Christmas Fair in Sedgefield, 12th-14th November.
