Leading transport spokesman Edmund King is returning to Newcastle after almost three decades to take up the role of Visiting Professor with the university's Transport Operations Research Group.

Delivering his first seminar today, the former Newcastle University politics student will discuss the power of the media in influencing transport decision making and policy.

Appointed President of the AA in December 2007, Professor King is responsible for public policy, communications, research and campaigning on behalf of motorists.

He said: "Having studied at Newcastle University I am honoured and delighted to be able to give something back. As I have worked in the transport field for 25 years in the UK and USA I have lots of practical experience of the politics and practicalities of transport. I look forward to this new challenge.

Professor Phil Blythe, Director of Transport Operations Research Group, Newcastle University, said: “We look forward to harnessing Edmund's insight and practical approach to transport within the research group and building on his strong links to the motoring industry.”
