Expert explains why equality is better for everyone
Richard Wilkinson, co-founder of The Equality Trust, will explain how the level of inequality in a society can affect mental health, life expectancy, obesity rates and how well children do at school. He will also discuss how too much inequality has the biggest effect on the less well off but still affects the vast majority of the population.
Professor Wilkinson is Professor Emeritus of Social Epidemiology at the University of Nottingham, Honorary Professor at University College London and a visiting professor at the University of York.
The talk, which takes place at 5.30pm on Thursday (2 February), in the Curtis Auditorium of the Herschel Building, is the first of the new spring season of Insights public lectures at the university.
A marketplace of stalls run by groups which campaign against inequality and are committed to fairness and equality, will be in the Herschel Building foyer from 4.45pm to 5.30pm and from 6.45pm to 7.45pm.
