thumbnail Newcastle University signs agreement with Santander Universities

Newcastle University students are to benefit from a newly-formed agreement which will see Banco Santander providing an annual donation of £75,000 towards student scholarships.

The agreement, between Santander Universities and Newcastle University, which will be in place for a minimum of three years, was sealed during a signing ceremony held in University.

The agreement includes:

•        seven individual postgraduate studentships to support the taught one-year MA in Latin American Interdisciplinary Studies

•        two International Taught Masters Studentships

•        five UK/EU Taught Masters Studentships

•        support for the Santander Lectureship in Spanish for Business

•        a minimum of 12 International Exchange Bursaries

•        support for a minimum of two high profile Santander Visiting Research Fellows for a period of up to four months

•        three £2,000 Business Incubation Awards

•        a contribution to the Santander Newcastle Racing Award

•        16 Santander Community Engagement Awards

The ceremony coincided with the opening of the newest UK branch of Banco Santander, which is based in Newcastle University Students’ Union building.

For Banco Santander, investing in education is the most powerful means of promoting the development and prosperity of society.

The agreement opens a whole range of opportunities for staff and students to study, conduct research and live in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America. It will also allow students from those countries to benefit from the vibrant life of Newcastle as well as the quality of its university.

This is perfectly aligned with our objective of contributing to promote cultural understanding and the transfer of knowledge between countries.”

This agreement comes as welcome recognition of, and support for, our work relating to Latin America.

Through its Santander Universities Global Division, Banco Santander supports the higher education sector in four continents in areas including teaching and research, international co-operation, knowledge and technology transfer, entrepreneurial initiatives, student mobility and innovation. Newcastle University is the latest addition to the Santander Universities network of more than 700 HE institutions worldwide.
