Newcastle University introduces new courses for Indian students

Newcastle University has introduced a range of post graduate and research programmes considering the specific needs of Indian students.

The University has announced 19 new postgraduate and 6 masters of research programmes in the field of Architecture, Biomedicine, Biosciences, Business and Management, Finance and Accounting Civil and Mechanical Engineering and Computer Sciences.

The new courses introduced by the University will start from September 2012 and can be pursued full time over a period of 12 months. An applicant whose first language is not English is required to sit the IELTS exam and score according to the course prerequisites.

Commenting on the new development, Ms. Preety Bansal, Country Manager, Newcastle University, said, "Newcastle University is continuing to grow its portfolio of courses to appeal to an increasingly important international market.

"For example, the rapid development in the field of management, biosciences, biotechnology, engineering and architecture in India has resulted in a huge market demand for skilled professionals in these disciplines.

"Over the past few years, we have seen an upturn in interest from Indian students who want a high-quality education in one of the UK’s most vibrant and welcoming student cities. In addition, we also provide specific financial support to Indian and other overseas students in our endeavor to help them pursue their dream course."

She added: "The courses focus on achieving research excellence. The teaching methods at the University are a blend of theory, practical and research methods. Teaching is delivered in small groups to foster good working relationships with fellow students and academic staff."

Students can also benefit from a range of scholarship opportunities at Newcastle University. The International Office has offered 10 Newcastle University India Scholarships (NUIS PG) for high-achieving Indian students applying for post graduate taught programmes within the Faculties of Science, Agriculture, and Engineering, Medical Sciences and Newcastle University Business School commencing their studies in September 2012.

Apart from the NUIS PG scholarship, it is also offering 70 Newcastle University International Postgraduate Scholarship (NUIPS) for international students.

The new courses introduced this year include: architectural design research, future landscape imaginaries, sustainable buildings and environments, diabetes, mitochondrial biology and medicine, Oncology for the Pharmaceutical Industry, bioinformatics, neuroinformatics, computational systems biology, synthetic biology, management and business studies (Research), finance and economics (Research), biomedical engineering, design and manufacturing engineering, low carbon transport engineering, environmental and petroleum geochemistry, environmental consultancy and intelligent transport systems.
