Newcastle University is in the Sunday Times University Guide's Top 20.

The guide, released this weekend, puts Newcastle in 17th place in the UK and third in the North East and Yorkshire.

It highlights the University’s excellent employment rate, which is the best in the region. Over 93% of Newcastle graduates were in employment or undertaking further study six months after graduating.

The Sunday Times University Guide takes into account several factors when putting together its table, including student satisfaction, teaching and research quality, entrance qualifications held by new students, degree results achieved, student/staff ratios, graduate employment levels and university dropout rates.

The result comes after the official National Student Survey rankings, which showed that 89% of undergraduates are happy with their time at Newcastle University.

Professor Suzanne Cholerton, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching at Newcastle University said: “The Sunday Times Good University Guide looks at a wide range of factors, including the quality of teaching, employment rates and research, which are all areas of particular strength at Newcastle.

“However, it is important that we continue to concentrate on all areas of our performance to ensure we deliver the best possible experience and education for all our students.”

Alastair McCall, Editor of The Sunday Times University Guide, said: “If a university provides a great student experience, can offer good graduate job prospects, plus a strong track record for degree completion and outcomes, good rankings and students will follow.”
