We are one of very few UK psychology courses to offer year-long professional psychology placements. Students from all of our single honours and joint honours programmes can consider applying for a placement. This is an excellent opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned in a practical context, and to gain an important advantage in a competitive job market.
Our students are undertaking placements in a variety of settings, for example working for the NHS Foundation Trust, Northumbria Police, Newcastle University Institute of Neuroscience, and local mental health support charities. We have a dedicated placement team who secure a set of placements, and students can also source their own placement.
Placements also present a good opportunity for placement providers to recruit knowledgable, hardworking, and enthusiastic placement students. Placements can be offered on either a paid or voluntary basis. Placements can be in any role relevant to psychology, and should be on a full-time basis for a period of 9 to 12 months.

Academic excellence and professional pathways are the cornerstones of the School of Psychology at Newcastle and as many of our undergraduate students take professional placements, we would like to share their experiences though the Psychology Professional Placement Year Newsletter.
