Trainees in Clinical Psychology conduct their doctoral research throughout the North East. Some of this is conducted through University Institutes. Others conduct research in collaboration with a wide range of NHS Trusts from across the region and in various specialisms and populations (child and adolescent mental health, transition and early intervention services, working age adults, older adults, forensic, learning disability, primary care, health psychology, regional specialist services, etc). Research in these settings could involve the participation of staff, service users or carers. Trainees also conduct research with the collaboration of charities, self help/advocacy groups, care homes, and the emergency services. Other studies are conducted in schools both with typically developing children and those with developmental difficulties. Finally, studies with healthy volunteers contribute to the development and testing of models of psychological phenomena of clinical relevance
