Newcastle University wants its staff and students to work together to provide a high quality learning environment.
Students as well as staff have an important role to play in maintaining the quality and reputation of degrees awarded. The Student Charter outlines the standards of provision that students, on taught programmes, can expect from staff and the expectations that the University has of students in being responsible adults who are proactive and self-reliant learners. The Student Charter is included in the Student Guide, which is given to all new students when they register.
It is also helpful to phrase the Student Charter commitments in a way which is more meaningful to staff. For this reason the Teaching Code of Practice was prepared. The Charter, and the Teaching Code of Practice, were prepared following consultation with staff and students. Both documents will be updated periodically via the University's Teaching, Learning and Student Experience Committee.
