Newcastle University Ventures

The University has an excellent track record for the formation of spin-out companies based on applied research. These companies have the potential to play a significant role in the development of new technologies into products and services. They also contribute to the development and vitality of the region through new jobs and revenue creation.

Newcastle University Ventures has been established to assist with the pre-formation and post-formation development of University Spin-Outs. It is a small team, made up of individuals with extensive business experience and with networks of contacts in the business and finance world.

It works closely with founding academics and the Faculty enterprise teams, to help create real value in the new business.

Support inludes:

  • Reviewing the business opportunity
  • Development of the business value proposition
  • Preparation of the business plan, including determining funding requirements
  • Identification and securing of appropriate initial funding, including:
    • Translational research funding
    • Proof of Concept funding
    • Investment funding
  • Assistance with recruitment of management or other staff
  • Provision of initial management (where appropriate)
  • Assistance with further fund raising
    • Investment
    • Grant
  • Support for corporate legals / financials / administration
  • Signposting to external support network provisions
  • University appointed Non-Executive Director
